7 Ways to Pray for the Guys in Your Life

Being a man of God in today’s world has got to be difficult.  I don’t even need to ask.  If it’s hard being a godly woman, I suspect that it’s just about impossible to be a godly man in today’s world.  Women of the world squash manhood to a pulp and trample on it in the name of feminism.  Billboards and magazines bombard guys with junk.  We now hear of “toxic masculinity.”  Indeed, 'tis a sorry world for the men.

We as believers understand that the Word of God is a timeless book, and its principles will apply to every age.  It’s relevant and true, and its instruction is good (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

I was at a wedding recently where the officiant read off a brief list of Scripture specifically geared towards the roles of husbands and wives, and summarized them using one or two words.  Not only was it a weighty challenge to the bride and groom, but also to the spectators.  God’s Word has much to say about godly manhood.

Many of you readers are young single ladies like myself, and most of you are praying for your future husbands already.  I encourage you to stay faithful in doing that.  But I also want to encourage you to think outside the box. Who else can you pray for?

We are told in God’s Word that prayer is effective, and we see amazing answers to prayer all throughout Scripture.  I encourage you pray for the men in your life; not only your future husband, but also your father, your brothers, your uncles, your grandfathers, your friends, your pastor, your elders—people you know by name.  Get on your knees for them!  Men of God need prayer, too.

Following are 7 specific things you can pray for the guys in your life.

1 – Pray for them to be UNWAVERING.

We need men of God who are completely firm and convinced of the truth of God’s Word and unwavering despite the doubts, temptations, or persecution that threatens to push them down.

2 – Pray for them to ABOUND IN THE LORD’S WORK.

We should also pray for them to be ministry-minded, pursuing God’s will for their lives and doing what the Lord would have them to do.

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58

3 – Pray for them to be TEACHABLE.

“A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:” – Proverbs 1:5

4 – Pray for them to be PURE.

You don’t have to look very far to notice that purity is not exactly upheld by our culture – in fact, it is rather the opposite.  Pray for the godly guys in your life, that they will be committed to purity and able to withstand temptation

“But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;” – Ephesians 5:3

5 – Pray for them to be SELFLESS.

“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.  Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” – Philippians 2:3-4

6 – Pray for them to be STRENGTHENED.

Every Christian gets discouraged at some point as they walk the narrow way.  Pray for the guys in your life to be strengthened as they go against the flow of the culture around them.

“But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:13

7 – Pray for them to be RESPONSIBLE.

Men have a responsibility to be hard-working, faithful to provide for their families.  As you can see from this passage, men that are not responsible in this area do not carry a Christian testimony.

“But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” – 1 Timothy 5:8
